Annual Fees and Taxes for PMR Radios
To use any licensed PMR radio, you will incur costs, including annual fees. In this article, we will explore all the details related to these costs.
Processing Fees
- Processing fee for general authorization and granting of frequency usage rights:
- 100.00 euros for projects with up to 3 frequencies (or pairs of frequencies) and connections up to 30 km or within a provincial scope.
- 200.00 euros for projects with up to 6 frequencies and connections up to 60 km or within an inter-provincial scope.
- 500.00 euros for projects with up to 12 frequencies and connections up to 120 km or within a regional scope.
- 1000.00 euros for projects with up to 16 frequencies and connections up to 240 km or within an inter-regional scope.
- 3,000.00 euros in remaining cases.
Annual Contributions
For terrestrial mobile service networks, an additional annual fee of 30.00 euros is due for each fixed station, with the exception of the first, and for each mobile or portable device, excluding receive-only devices. For the first one hundred devices, a unit fee of 15.00 euros applies to devices exceeding this number.
Exemptions
Certain associations such as Regions for the 118 emergency medical service, the Aosta Valley Region and the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano for civil protection and firefighting activities, the Italian Red Cross, the National Corps and volunteer associations are exempt from paying these taxes for using PMR radios.
Temporary Authorizations
In case of a request for temporary general authorization for mobile services lasting less than one year, the applicant is required to pay an overall contribution for the use of each single or dual frequency channel and for every fifteen days or fraction of the duration of the temporary general authorization:
- 300.00 euros for connections up to 15 km.
- 500.00 euros for connections up to 30 km.
- 800.00 euros for connections up to 60 km.
- 1,500.00 euros for connections up to 120 km.
- 2,800.00 euros for connections over 120 km.
License-free radios
Since July 24, 2020, the following activities are license-free and do not require any application or payment of contributions (as in all European Union countries):
